The Chemistry of Power

Batteries are not magic, they are chemistry with rules. Drawing on the thousands of batteries ZiggaTech inspects a year, why most people are destroying their device's lifespan by following outdated advice from 2015.

Most battery advice in circulation is correct advice for a chemistry that is no longer in the device. Draining to zero before charging, and charging only to full, came from nickel-based cells and their memory effect. Lithium-ion does not work that way.

The rules that actually apply are less intuitive. Lithium-ion prefers shallow, frequent cycles to deep ones, and its real enemies are heat and time spent sitting at the extremes of charge. Following 2015 advice on a 2026 device is not neutral. It measurably shortens the life of the cell.
